Growth: Building Your Dreams

One from six needs of human to live happily is growth, growth brings satisfaction to our life and enhance our quality of life as results. Not only crucial to our well being, by growing we also expand beyond our comfort zone and live a meaningful life. The difference between a seed and a tree is the fruit that it produces and the size of the plant itself, both are the result of growth. By growing up, a child who needs assistance becomes the one assisting, producing a real contribution to the society we live in. But not all growth comes naturally, unlike our physical growth we different capabilities in our mental growth which doesn’t always correlate with our age. A twenty years old could be more mature than a thirty years old, etc. Taking a responsibility for personal growth solely dependent on self and the willingness of a person to grow mentally.

Growth comes in many ways, it could be physical growth, career growth, financial growth and social growth. By growing physically we could set a goal to be more healthy and eat balanced diet, or exercise regularly to run a marathon. From career perspective it could means living toward the life the way we want to, doing what we do everyday passionately. If we are stuck in a job we don’t love or wanting to live overseas, we should do just that. Of course it doesn’t happen overnight, we have to make plans and working toward it everyday, attaining whatever it takes. Financial growth could be seen as a support to live the lifestyle we want or investing for retirement, so that when we retire we could live the way we want to. Social growth usually connote with the contribution we make everyday to a larger society, selfless things we do to help other people.

Do you remember what you wish for 5 years ago? From many wishes we made every year, how many do comes true to your life today? Five years ago, when I was still in high school I remember wanting to travel to further places around the globe. When I was on a plane to Singapore that’ll continue to Amsterdam, I remember wanting to go there too. It’s fascinating that in the next five years after that, not only me, but my family went to four continents and over 15 countries, including Amsterdam.

Planning is a crucial in building our dreams. Without a written goals in achieving dream, we are wandering aimlessly in the world, living everyday with the flow. Here’s a simplified version, step-by-step approach in turning a wish into reality:

– Write everything you want on a piece of paper

– Write the details of what you wish you are doing everyday, where you want to live, with whom, when would you to live that way, what you want to have, etc. Be as detailed as you could be.

– Know what it takes to attain whatever you want

– Work toward it everyday

So, how far are you from the life you want to live? Are you going to do what it takes to get there?
