Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso 976 Watch Review

Today I’m sharing my latest watch acquisition I made 3 days ago, please in mind that I’ve been drooling this watch for over 6 months so I might be a little biased in my review. The watch is Jaeger Lecoultre Reverso 976, a watch respected by watch connoisseur and have a historical value since 1931.

Jaeger Lecoultre is a Swiss made brand watch, the watch could be reversed to protect the glass when playing polo (by some British officer in India). Nowadays both side of the watch could be used as another time zone or simply displaying a transparent case back revealing the movement like this 976.

The accuracy of this watch is beyond COSC specification using Jaeger in house movement. The watch comes with a black crocodile strap, suitable as a dress watch or formal gathering. The butterfly clasp is nice and comforable as well.

The watch is priced at MSRP $8650 but I could get it new from AD at around $6500. Keep in mind this is a mechanical watch, so you have to wound it everyday or at least every 48 hours to keep it running.

The only drawback for me is the size of the watch which is quite large for my 6.3 inch wrist. Everything else is perfect.

Look, if that shot doesn’t tell you that the 976 is waaaaay too big for your size wrist then I don’t know what to say. And don’t delude yourself into thinking you’ll grow into it. You won’t!

I know, I know. But I really love the transparent case back, that’s the reason I didn’t bought GT. Perhaps I’ll grow fat later…
      Cheers.

    Well, to each his own.

I also have a 976 and I keep thinking it looks too big on my 191mm wrist (roughly 7.5 inches). There’s something about the lug to lug length that seems off to my eye so despite owning it since 2010 I’ve yet to wear it outside the house although I’ve tried it on at least a hundred times. Then again, my eyes are used to seeing a 1680 Submariner or a 16570 Polar Explorer II and a 116518 Daytona (all are basically 40mm) on my wrist so maybe it’s somewhat of a conditioned optical illusion.

Hey, it’s your watch so the heck with what anyone else thinks. Wear your watch in great health.
