Key Points from Book: How Will You Measure Your Life?

When graduating from college, it seems everybody has a vision for themselves. But as year goes by, things drifted away and many people lost their way, even they lose the big picture of themselves and what they want.

Rather than teaching people what tot hink, teach them how to think

New business could destroy a giant by entering from a lower segment and moving up to the higher segment. The example is blockbuster and netflix

Just because you have wings, doesn’t mean you can fly

Motivation is the key to great work, not incentives

The opposite of job dissatisfaction is not job satisfaction. It is the absence of job dissatisfaction

There have to be balance between motivators and hygiene factor ( status, salary, condition)

The key in having a satisfaction in your career is finding a job you truly passionate about

Is the job meaningful to you? Are you improving yourself? Learning new things?

There will always be more wants, more salary, nicer office, more prestigious title, etc

Be flexible in your plan and adjust yourself accordingly. Life is full of surprise element

When making a projection, don’t exagarate the number so that the board will accept it. Stick to the feasible reality than making a BS

Watch where you allocate your resources, money, time, energy should be used according to your priority. Sometimes we spend it somewhere else

When you say family is your priority but you spend most of your time somewhere else, then you are not saying the whole truth

Some investment, like raising a good children won’t be as interesting as getting a raise. The result could only be seen in the future while you have to make the investment now and continously.

Your relationships are going to be the most important sources of happiness in your life. When it seems everything is okay, don’t be fooled to put your investment somewhere else.

93% of all company that ultimately become successful had to abandon their original strategy

Be impatient for growth and patient for profit

Many people get so focused on their job and suddenly lose their family and friends in the way

Like talking to your newborn in their early life will increase their vocabulary capacity, you want to invest now in your priority and reap the fruit later

Companies focus too much on what they want to sell their customers, rsther than what those customers really need

What did you hire that for? Think of the logic behind every decision, marriage, buying milkshake, and literally every decision

Be careful with outsourcing, specially your children. If they are teached and live not with you, are they still your children? Dell vs Asus

Other than resource, there’s a process which couldn’t be seen or measured

3 stage: resources, processes, priorities

When it boils to an important decision to decide a candidate, choose the one with real world experience instead of great CV

Find the right experiences to build the skills you need

Culture is a way of working together toward common goals that have been followed frequently and so successfully that people don’t even think about trying to do things another way. If a culture has formed, people will autonomously do what they need to do to be successful-edgar Schein

Too many people get caught in marginal thinking, thinking they could just do things this once and they will never do it again. Chances are they’ll do it again if they are faced with difficult situation.

Don’t compromise your integrity

What kind of person do you want to become?

Are you committed with it?

Then find the right solution or metric

Find your purpose in life, looking back, it is going to be the best decision you made
