Why do Such Boring Life?

Image
Many people life, I would say 70% population, is quite predictable. They go to school, earning degree, and work 9-5 until retired, getting married, and die. Of course it’s not that simple, some will say it’s fun for them to work, but some would say, “My family needs that salary to live”. It’s good for the first person to enjoy their life in routine, but I feel sad for those saying the latter, my father included. He is a hardworking, intelligent man. He is a class champion in school, got his “cum laud” in MBA and IT in Thunderbird, and living most of his life in the office. When I ask him what he do in his office (he is a director at a leasing company) he said mostly he spent his time reading e-mails, attending meeting, and making a policy or dealing with software vendors (microsoft, net app). He got a huge TV in his office, not to mention refrigator and quite comfy sofa for sleeping. His office is in 19th floor, in the private corner with a nice view of the city.

That’s look good from the outside, right? But let’s consider it from my point of view. He goes to office in the morning (8/9 am) and come home at night (9-10 pm). Usually I’ve gone to university at the morning he wakes, and I’ve been sleeping the time he came home. He is getting fat, due to lack of physical activity and some Blue label he bought everytime we go to foreign countries. Our family communication is good, with yelling sometimes. But my parents marriage is not so good due to several “things” happened in the past. Yes, we are living happily with enough money to buy one Toyota Avanza each month, but we aren’t really happy I would say. I know for sure he’s working for one thing, money.

I don’t want to be like him, I would say he had a boring life, but I’m also grateful that he tries his best to have us living decently. That’s why for months, 9 months to be exact, I’ve been thinking about making money without having a 9-5 job. That’s one from many reason I got into stock trading, I’d like to have earning on my own. Many of my medical friends are excited to be a doctor, loving their 12-6 job, and earn money. But I don’t, I’ve never wanted to work as normal people do, it’s not that I’m lazy, quiet the contrary in fact. I mean how many of 19 years boy understand the meaning of “EBITDA”, understanding financial report, or read 30 books about stock in 6 months?

Then I realized I need more income, my stock portfolio with a capital of $7000 and average annual return of 30% is not enough for me to live. I need to build a business or anything to get passive income. I need at least $3000 a month to supply my needs of travelling around the world for the rest of my life. When I earn $3000/month, then I could do anything I want without worrying what I’ll eat or sleep in tomorrow. But I’ll take it slowly, I still have 11 years to learn and accumulate wealth. Then I’ll retire at age 30, with more than enough money to live decently, if you don’t know what I’m talking about, read my first post on the category “Financial Life”.

What do you want as a child? Learning to fly a plane? Going to North Pole and see Aurora? I think we all serve the right to pursuit our dreams. Live our own life. Take risk, and don’t get to comfortable in where you are. I have 2 books that really inspire me titled “4 Hours Work Week” and “Who Moved My Cheese”. It has a classic and applicable content wherever we are in life.

What business do you think will be good and applicable with such life? Please write in yhe comment box! I appreciate anything you share with me.
